Phonics
Phonics is the innovative program that lays the foundation of literacy in a child. Unlike the conventional approach of learning letters and alphabets, Phonics teaches letter sounds and their blending and segmenting in order to augment reading and writing skills in our youngest learners.
Catering to the young age group of 4-7 years, our Phonics classes encompass:
- Learning 42 letter sounds using multi-sensory techniques and actions.
- Blending letter sounds to develop reading skills.
- Learning digraphs and diphthongs.
- Learning Segmenting of sounds to learn spellings.
- Constantly learning and practising tricky words.
- Consistently practising reading progressing through the 9 graded reading levels of the Oxford Reading Tree.
Our Phonics classes are tailored and customised as per the child’s literacy and reading level. The classes are mostly held on a 1-1 basis or groups of maximum 3 children only. Each class is 1-hour long and conducted by English teachers trained in teaching Phonics. Our Phonics Learning Centre Singapore classes are conducted twice a week in order to maintain consistency of learning and practice.
The child culminates the Phonics program having developed:
- Reading and comprehension skills.
- Acquired basic spellings.
- Learning to read and spell basic tricky words.
- Respond to basic comprehension questions with a meaningfully constructed sentence with basic grammar and punctuation in place.
