Secondary 1 & 2: Giant Leap

The Secondary- 1 & 2 English classes are aimed at helping our students take the giant leap to bridge the gap between educational standards of Primary and Secondary Schools. Our Secondary English in Singapore classes are focused at:

• Reading/Comprehension & Summary Writing: The Reading-Comprehension paper is markedly complex with a variety of texts and their layers of meaning to be unearthed. Summary Writing tests the pupil’s calibre to sieve information and present it in their own words. Through worksheets of varied difficulty levels, we provide our students with consistent guidance and practice to develop comprehension and analytical skills.
• Composition & Situational Writing: Students are exposed to a variety of Composition Writing tasks: Opinionated/Persuasive Writing, Narrative Writing, Discursive Writing, among others. This is done to give the child enough time and practice to adapt to the newer styles of writing.
• Visual Comprehension & Analyses: Understanding the content, import and purpose of the visual given for comprehension is necessary. The correlation between the words and the pictures used is explored and expressed in our worksheets to make students adept at scoring well in the Visual Comprehension task.
• Literature: It’s novel for Secondary School students to read, analyse and respond to literary texts like: stories, novels, poetry and drama. Not only is this branch of study new for our students, it becomes even more challenging when the authors they read are hard to read and their ideas difficult to understand. We endeavour to help our students understand their literature texts, analyse their themes and learn ways to answer literature questions.

It is imperative to give students a head start into Secondary School English syllabi to equip them with skills and techniques needed to adapt to the evolving English syllabi and flourish in this challenging environment.
